Principia was ESA astronaut Tim Peake’s six-month mission, from December 2015 to June 2016, on the International Space Station, during which he maintained the weightless research laboratory and ran scientific experiments for researchers on Earth. Named after Isaac Newton’s seminal text on physics, Naturalis Principia Mathematica, the Principia mission patch features a falling apple in honour of Newton's definition of the laws of gravity.
