Did you know that Europe has its very own spaceport? Located in Kourou, French Guiana, the Guiana Space Centre has been active since 1964, with its first launch in 1968. It enables independent European access to space. Thanks to Kourou’s unique position near the equator and its low population, it's perfectly situated to carry out all possible space missions. Over the years, ESA has invested more than €2 billion in the spaceport’s development. In addition to its many European clients, the spaceport also undertakes launches for industries in the United States, Japan, Canada, India and Brazil.
